The active ingredient in Adipex is phentermine, the popular diet drug that gained notoriety during the 1990s in its role in the famed weight loss cocktail, Fen-Phen. (Fenfluramine and Phentermine)

The FDA first approved Phentermine in 1959, for use as an appetite suppressant. It is prescribed to people who are at risk for weight-related medical problems, and has met with a satisfactory degree of success in the treatment of obesity. Phentermine works by encouraging the release of specific appetite-controlling substances within the brain. It became available in the form of Phentermine hydrochloride during the 1970s, and was sold under the brand name Fastin until its removal from the market in 1998 following the Fen-Phen scandal.

In the early 1990s, researchers discovered that more weight loss could be achieved by combining Phentermine with Fenfluramine. The combination of the two drugs became known as Fen-Phen. Prior to this study, virtually no clinical studies had been conducted to determine the effects of Phentermine. By 1997, numerous cases of heart valve irregularities had been discovered in users of Fen-Phen and the FDA requested that both products be removed from the market. Further studies revealed that 30% of people who were taking Fen-Phen had heart valve disease. Following these studies, the FDA concluded that Phentermine could remain on the market. Today, Phentermine is sold generically as well as under other brand names, one of which is Adipex.

Adipex diet pills are intended for short-term use by obese people who need to lose weight due to health risks. For optimal results, the FDA recommends that Adipex be taken in conjunction with exercise and a healthy calorie-reduced diet. The active ingredient, Phentermine, affects the brain by stimulating the hypothalamus to release norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter with appetite-reducing properties. It also works in the body by releasing epinephrine, which helps break down stored fat. Because it is in the same family as amphetamines, it is considered to be a controlled substance and should only be taken under a doctors supervision.

Adipex can help you lose weight quickly, but it is not for everyone. Some ingredients of this weight loss formula can cause a negative reaction with other substances, including but not limited to Fenfluramine, Dexfenfluramine, and MAOI drugs such as phenelzine. Do not combine Adipex with other diet supplements without first consulting a physician. People with high blood pressure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism or heart disease should also not take Adipex. Consult a physician before taking this product to ensure that it will be compatible with any medication or medical conditions you may have. Some people may also have allergies to some of the ingredients of this product, so it is wise to ensure that it will not affect you in such a way. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding, or are planning to become pregnant should not take Adipex or any other product containing phentermine. Antacids may also affect the way that phentermine is absorbed by the body.

Adipex is well tolerated by most people, but it can cause unpleasant side effects in some people, particularly when taken in large doses or for a prolonged period of time. Side effects are similar to those experienced with amphetamines, but not as intense. Like amphetamines, prolonged used of Adipex can lead to psychological and physical dependence. Some side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, insomnia and restlessness. Some people may experience heart palpitations, shakiness and gastric upset. Signs of overdose include agitation, confusion, rapid breathing, tremors, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you suspect an overdose, proceed to an emergency room immediately.

As with any medication, Adipex should be taken in the correct dosage under the supervision of a qualified physician. Don’t use Adipex without prescription When taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise regime, Adipex can help you lose the weight you want to lose, quickly and easily, giving you the beautiful body you have always desired.
